Buy-in: £25+7. 30k stack. 20 minute levels. £1500 guarantee. Tuesday night Birmingham regulars. The structure gives about 8 levels of play in which to make the odd mistake, then it gets more serious. There are 2 re-buy’s allowed in the first 6 levels. By the time you get to the final table it’s a shove-fest. Invariable the top half dozen do a chop.
I sit down at the end of level 3, with 36 runners.
42550 at the break at end of level 6, and it’s been a bit of a roller-coaster:
Won big with AA. Lost big with queens full of 99s…
Level 7: blinds are 500/1000/100. I have 42 bb
Level 11: blinds are 1500/3000/300. I have 33k.
End of level 12. I have 146.5k. Won 3 significant pots:
77 v ak, a10 v 107, 84ss (3 folds to my re-raise on the flop with a flush and belly-buster)
48 entries, 12 re-buys is the final amount – so they make the guarantee.
Level 13: blinds are 2500/5000/500. 18 left. Top 7 paid.
Take 30k with AK v A6, aipf
Level 15: blinds are 4000/8000/500. 14 left.
Level 16: blinds are 6000/12000/1000. I have 170k (15bb). Won big hand (90k) flush v 2 pair. I slow played the flush and the guy was so drunk he didn’t think he’d lost… Then lose a big hand aq v 22, aipf and I don’t improve.
Take a massive stack AA v AQ, aipf
I have 397k as we go to the final table. I’m the chip leader with 33bb
Win 100k with JJ v KJ aipf, flop a full house.
2 savers agreed: £50 for 8 and 9.
Level 17: blinds are 8000/16000/1000
Level 18: blinds are 10000/20000/2000. I have 450k
Level 19: blinds are 15000/30000/3000. I have 469k
Given the state of the blinds a chop is agreed 4 ways, with each person taking £280 and £10 going to the dealers. There was about 30k between all 4 stacks. Left at 03:55. Had a very poor kebab before driving home.
