I’ve been playing recreational poker for over 10 years ever since I started watching Poker After Dark on TV. Playing and learning the game with family, I plucked up the courage to buy into a real game with strangers in a local pub. That was my first time playing in the English Poker League, against 24 people and I won, even got a little trophy and umbrella! That meant I was hooked.
My game developed and I learnt some skill was needed and I couldn’t rely on luck to win! I joined redtooth poker at another local pub and after 3 seasons I made my first national final at Nottingham’s Dust Til Dawn! (that is some place). My best complete season was making 3 national finals out of 4 and in this I actually took down one of these for the Central England winner and a cool £500!
Unfortunately after some personal issues, my head was a little out of the game until I step into Aspers in London for my first slice of APAT. This was the most I had ever spent on a poker entry, my sister thought I was mad! There was so much more I could do with £110! Signing up for Day 1a of the main event, I played my best cards only! 5/6 hands in the end! Sailed through to day 2 bagging chips 5th chip leader! As the day went on, my virtual rail was getting more excited, dreaming of Vegas and top prize! Unfortunately is wasn’t meant to be, 6th was the best I could do! But what a score for my first bigger buy in!
That got me into APAT and playing more casino games. 2017 was a quiet year for me, 2018 is a whole different ball game. Had cashes in February and at the worlds this year. My biggest achievement to date was coming 2nd in the APAT Irish championship in which I was runner up to my other half (not that he lets me forget that)!!
As well as playing for myself, I have taken over the reigns in my local game as the TD/Admin lady! For the last 5 (coming up 6) years I have been running charity games in aid of wear it pink for Breast Cancer Research. We have raised over £5k to date and last year we raised £900 in a single event! The glutton for punishment that I am, I have put East Herts poker on the map by organising a ‘team event’ which our Danny Strange took down the jndividual prize in and at Christmas I am organising a tag team event!
